Quick summary: from October 1, 2026, if you ride an electric scooter at night you must wear at least one luminous or reflective element visible from 150 meters. Riding at night without it can cost you €200. So you don’t have to wear the vest from your car trunk, at MyUrbanScoot we designed ours: black, racing style, reflective everywhere, and a chest mount to record your routes with your phone. It arrives the first week of December and is now on pre-sale for €26.90 instead of €35. Early birds pay less.

By day, matte black. By night, it shines white as soon as headlights hit it.

The problem: the construction vest doesn’t match anything

Let’s be honest: the typical fluorescent yellow vest has only one mission in life, which is to live folded in the car trunk waiting for a highway flat tire. If you wear it riding a scooter around the city, people don’t think “what a safe rider.” They think “is this guy here to block the street for construction?”

You have your scooter with stickers, your motocross helmet, your nice sneakers… and suddenly, the look of a “roundabout flagger.” No, thanks.

The problem is now you have to wear something reflective at night. So the question is no longer whether to wear it, but what to wear to comply with the law without looking like you’re about to paint road lines.

This is the MyUrbanScoot reflective vest

We designed it ourselves, thinking of people who ride electric scooters every day. It’s not a vest: it’s a racing-style harness, black with white reflectors and the MyUrbanScoot logo, that goes well with a sweatshirt, a winter jacket, or whatever you wear.

Total visibility at night

  • Reflectors on shoulders, chest, back, and belt: visible from front, back, and sides.
  • Designed for the new DGT regulation, which requires at night at least one luminous or reflective element visible from 150 meters.
  • In low light, it changes from matte black to intense white as soon as headlights hit it.

Phone holder: record your routes in POV

  • Front elastic pocket for phone with security strap and buckle: phone stays secure even on bumps.
  • The camera is at chest height, perfect angle to record your scooter, bike, or motorcycle rides in first person (POV). No handlebar mounts or action cameras needed.
  • Large zippered pocket for keys, wallet, cards, or headphones (stored away, as wearing them while riding is fined).

Note: start recording on your phone before you set off and don’t touch it while riding. Using your phone by hand while driving is a serious offense and fined €200.

Comfortable and one size fits all

  • Stretch fabric that adapts to your body without squeezing.
  • Breathable mesh with perforations on back and shoulders: doesn’t get hot even in summer.
  • Adjustable straps on the belt: fits any size, over a t-shirt or coat.
  • Lightweight: carry it in your backpack and put it on in seconds.

What the new DGT regulation says

Royal Decree 518/2026, which amends the General Traffic Regulations, came into force on October 1, 2026. For electric scooters (VMP) it brings these changes:

  • Reflective element at night: between sunset and sunrise, or with very low visibility, you must wear at least one luminous or reflective element visible from a minimum distance of 150 meters.
  • Mandatory helmet, approved or certified and properly fastened.
  • Minimum age of 15 years to ride an electric scooter.
  • Professional use (delivery riders): high-visibility reflective vest mandatory on all types of roads at any time.
  • Lights always on, also during the day, starting October 1, 2027.

If you ride for yourself

At night you need at least one luminous or reflective element visible from 150 m. The MyUrbanScoot vest is designed exactly for that.

If you work as a rider

The law requires a high-visibility reflective vest whenever you ride for work, day and night.

And remember: if you haven’t yet, you can register your scooter and carry its official DGT license plate (€9.90).

Scooter fines you need to know

These are the most common fines for electric scooters according to the DGT and Traffic Law:
