Insurance for Electric Scooters

Register your scooter, get your official license plate and take out your insurance in 3 steps.

Step 1: DGT Registration

Before taking out your insurance, your electric scooter must be registered with the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT). You can do it by clicking here.

01

Why is it mandatory?

Since January 2024, all personal mobility vehicles (VMP) of class C and D are required to register with the DGT and obtain an official licence plate to ride on urban roads.

02

What do you need to register?

Identity document (DNI/NIE), scooter details (brand, model, VIN frame number), and the manufacturer's certificate of conformity. The procedure is free and is done online on the DGT electronic office.

03

How long does it take?

Registration with the DGT is usually resolved within 1-3 business days. Once approved, you will receive your official licence plate number, which you will need in the next step.
